Integro, a Latin root of the word “integrity,” means “to heal, refresh, renew, and balance.” With these concepts in mind, Integro Sports + Rehabilitation was established in 2004 by Dr. Lauren Elkind, who specializes in functional rehabilitation and comprehensive chiropractic neurology. Treatments include Active Release Technique and Graston Technique to address soft tissue injury that results from repetitive stress injury as well as macrotrauma. Clients are referred to Integro by orthopedists, podiatrists, patients, and other chiropractors

Dr. Lauren Elkind, educated at UC Berkeley, had a fateful injury while heading for law school that introduced her to the world of Active Release Technique and Pilates. Always interested in a service-oriented career, Dr. Elkind found herself rehabilitating on a Pilates reformer after injuring her ankle. This prompted her to shift her studies to Life Chiropractic College West, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2001.

Dr. Elkind is certified in all three levels of ART: spine, upper and lower extremities, nerve entrapment, as well as IRONMAN Performance Care Biomechanics.  She also teaches at ART seminars which are held around the country.  Dr. Elkind is currently pursuing a postgraduate degree in chiropractic neurology and rehabilitation, and continues to stay current in her field by attending various seminars and workshops.

Dr. Elkind also has a strong interest in working with high school and junior high soccer and baseball teams, stressing injury prevention and proper training techniques. She has worked with participants in the Team in Training programs and with professional Ironman tri-athletes, both in preparation for the event and at the event itself. Dr. Elkind stays in contact with her community by teaching an advanced class on abdominal and back stabilization at a local health club. She also enjoys distance cycling, swimming, triathlon, snow sports, dancing, hiking, tennis, yoga and, of course, Pilates.

Liesbet Bickett provides ART, deep tissue work, sports and Swedish massage, and personal training to a wide range of athletes and non-athletes at Integro. She is a certified Active Release provider, certified massage therapist and National Academy of Sports Medicine certified personal trainer.

It is the combination of training and soft tissue work that gives Liesbet the most satisfaction, leading to increased performance and core strength, and a decrease in pain. Ironically, these results eventually eliminate the need for Liesbet, which is what she hopes for.

Liesbet, the mother of three, is also an aspiring athlete. Her years of climbing have resulted in a fourth place finish in the 2003 National Climbing Championships. Other activities include cross country skiing, cycling, swimming, hiking and an array of outside adventures.

Liesbet enjoys working with people to create a healthier, more functional body that allows them to better enjoy their lives, families, work and activities. Pain free, flowing movement allows for speed, which is the best way to create time.

Makee’s job is to bring a feeling of warmth and comfort to the office and he excels at his work. His name is short for “Makana” which means “gift” in Hawaiian. Dr. Elkind chose him for his breed—Coton de Tulear--because he is a small, hypoallergenic dog who is calm and comforting for patients who enjoy dogs, and warm but undemanding for patients who are not as interested in him. Cotons not only have hair instead of fur, making allergies a nonissue, but they are extremely sweet, relaxed and well adjusted. Besides, Makee’s sparkling puppy-dog eyes make him hard to resist.
